See The You of Christmas Past this Year with Injectables

BotoxIt’s the most wonderful time of the year for a lot of reasons but one of our favorite reasons is it’s a great time of year to consider injectables. We love Botox and other injectables this time of year because you can see your results quickly without a lot of downtime. With holiday parties, family gatherings, pictures being taken, and more, it’s the perfect time of year to feel good about the face you see in the mirror.

What is Botox?

Botox is the most common and well-known cosmetic injection in the world. It was the first botulinum toxin used for cosmetic purposes. In addition to the Botox brand, we also use Dysport brand botulinum toxin in our office.

How do injectables work?

Injectables work by targeting the underlying muscles that cause deep lines and wrinkles such as frown lines and crow’s feet to form over time. When we make facial expressions like squinting, frowning, or even smiling our nerves release a neurotransmitter chemical called acetylcholine. The muscle then contracts due to the neurotransmitter bonds. Wrinkle relaxers like Botox and Dysport work by binding to the acetylcholine receptors and blocking the signal from the nerve to the muscles.

These cosmetic treatments are prescription medications that are injected into muscles and are used to temporarily improve the look of frown lines between the eyebrows and for crow’s feet. Some people also find an improvement in the position of the brows is possible after injection as well.

How long does it take to see results?

Typically, it takes about 24 to 48 hours to notice results but the maximum effects should be visible after 30 days.

Am I a good candidate?

Good candidates for Botox, or botulinum toxin treatments, are those who are healthy, without any muscle or nerve conditions (ALS, myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome) and have wrinkles from expression in the commonly treated areas.
