Many women who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their breasts turn to plastic surgeons for an answer. Here at the Plastic Surgery Group of Rochester, we specialize in performing breast augmentation with implants. Our plastic surgeons will help you achieve the breasts you’ve desired in a comfortable, professional setting. Our practice serves the Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse area.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation, also known as breast enlargement or breast enhancement, is one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures. The goal of the procedure is to increase breast size and/or improve breast asymmetry with breast implants. Breast enhancement is also performed as a way to restore the breast to their natural appearance prior to weight loss, aging, and pregnancy.
Benefits Of Breast Augmentation
- Breast enlargement can enhance breast size for women who feel their breast size is too small.
- After a pregnancy, breast size and firmness can decrease. Breast augmentation with implants can correct this.
- If one breast is smaller than the other, breast implants and/or breast reduction can correct the difference.
- Breast augmentation can be used to reconstruct a breast following surgery, such as a mastectomy.
Candidates For Breast Enhancement Surgery
Most women who are dissatisfied with the size and shape of their breasts are ideal candidates for breast enhancement surgery. Ideal candidates for breast surgery include patients who are:
- In general good health
- Realistic about the results of the procedure
- Not pregnant or breast feeding
- Seeking surgery for personal reasons
- Unhappy with the appearance of their breasts
The best way to determine whether or not you are a good candidate is with a consultation with one of our surgeons. Additionally, a woman’s breasts must be fully developed to be considered for this procedure.
Breast Augmentation Before & After
Breast Enlargement Patient Testimonial
“I had a surgery done by Dr. Davenport and he was very kind and made everything easy. It was clear that he knew what he was doing. I love the way my surgery turned out and I would highly recommend him. The office staff is always very friendly”
Types Of Breast Implants
Our surgeons use two types of breast implants for breast augmentation: silicone and saline. Implant options are best discussed in detail during the consultation with your plastic surgeon.
Silicone Breast Implants
Silicone gel-filled implants are filled with a salt-water solution known as saline. Our breast enhancement patients typically have breast augmentation using silicone gel implants because they feel more like natural breasts than saline implants.
Saline Breast Implants
If a saline implant ruptures, saline is naturally absorbed by the body. If a silicone implant has an extracapsular rupture, the silicone filler leaks into the body. This likely results in enlarged lymph glands or inflammatory nodules.
Breast Augmentation Procedure
The breast augmentation surgeon will work through the incision to lift your breast tissue and skin, creating a space beneath your pectoral (chest) muscle. By placing an implant under each breast, our surgeons can enhance your bust contour by one or more cup sizes. If your breasts are sagging, your doctor may recommend a breast lift in addition to breast augmentation surgery.
How Long Does Breast Implant Surgery Take?
At our facilities, breast augmentation surgery with breast implants usually takes one and a half hours. When the operation is complete, absorbable stitches are below the skin to close the incisions.
Can Breast Enhancement Be Combined With Other Procedures?
At The Plastic Surgery Group of Rochester, patients often combine multiple procedures with breast enhancement surgery. Patients choose to combine breast surgery with procedures such as tummy tuck, liposuction, and breast lift surgery. Combining procedures creates dramatic results, but also comes with a longer and more complex recovery period. Be sure to talk to your Rochester plastic surgeon to determine which procedures are right for you.
Recovery From Breast Augmentation Surgery
The typical recovery after surgery is 1-2 weeks. The doctor will prescribe the patient pain medication and muscle relaxants to provide comfort. Patients may shower after 2 days. Patients should also wait to travel until after first post-operative check-up 1 week after surgery.
How Soon After Breast Implant Surgery Can I Resume Activities?
Returning to work and activities depends on how physically demanding your work or activities are. This will vary from 2-6 weeks and the patient should discuss this with his/her doctor. Typically there is no heavy lifting for 1 month.
Will There Be Scarring After Breast Augmentation Surgery?
Our surgeons take a variety of factors into account when planning a breast augmentation procedure. We will make every effort to keep the resulting scars as inconspicuous as possible. We will take into account your personal anatomy to determine the least visible location for breast implants. Most incisions for breast augmentation are in the inframammary fold or crease.
