Having tired, sagging, and puffy eyelids may be because your tired, overworked, and sleep deprived, or it may be something a little bit more. As we age, our skin starts to lose elasticity which can cause things like fine lines, wrinkles, and a loss of collagen in the skin which can result in droopy, puffy eyelids that make you look a lot tired than you really are. One of the most popular surgeries that we offer patients here at The Plastic Surgery Group of Rochester, is called a blepharoplasty.
What’s a Blepharoplasty?
A blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is a surgery that’s used to help patients, like you, get rid of excess sagging skin on the eyelids and around the eyes. Not only can a blepharoplasty be used to help treat patients with upper eyelid issues, but we can also help patients who have lower eyelid issues.
What Are the Benefits?
Depending on the type of blepharoplasty that you get, benefits will vary.
Upper eyelid surgery benefits include:
- Removing excess skin that distorts the natural fold in the upper eyelid
- Correcting puffiness that causes the eyes to appear tired
Lower eyelid surgery benefits include:
- Removing excess skin
- Improving or correcting fine lines and wrinkles
- Removing bags beneath the eyes
- Correcting the droopiness that can cause whites of the eyes to show beneath the iris
How Is Surgery Performed?
Typically, we will perform this surgery on an outpatient basis. After you are numb or under anesthesia, one of our surgeons will make incisions inside the creases of either the upper or lower eyelids. Then, the surgeon will separate the skin from the muscle and remove slack muscles and tighten the skin. To finish it off, we will use small sutures to close up the incisions.
