Dermal Fillers in Rochester, NY

Smooth, plump, firm skin combine with symmetry to create natural beauty. Of course, we are not all born with perfectly plump lips, nor do we maintain smooth, firm skin forever. When minor enhancements are desired, we commonly turn to dermal fillers to achieve lasting results.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Beautiful woman

Dermal fillers are cosmetic injectable treatments that can improve your appearance. As we age, sagging and wrinkles are an unwelcome result of volume loss and years of expression. Here is where fillers can help. There are many available to suit your individual needs.

What Concerns Can Dermal Fillers Correct?

Dermal fillers can correct areas that need more volume, including the following:

  • Cheeks that flatten with time
  • Under-eye bags that appear with age
  • Jowling (heaviness at the jaw and chin areas)
  • Smile lines and expression lines
  • Youthful fullness to lips that thin with time

How Do Dermal Fillers Compare To Botox?

Like Botox, dermal fillers are injectable products that have been extensively tested and approved by the FDA for specific use. Also like Botox, dermal fillers are often used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and creases. The difference lies in how each type of product works.

Dermal fillers are intended for volume. Botox is intended for muscle relaxation. When we inject fillers, we are inserting hyaluronic acid or another volumizing ingredient to the soft tissue beneath the skin. The result of added volume may be better contouring along the mid-face, fuller lips, and a smooth surface. Botox cannot add volume; this product reduces specific signs of aging like frown lines and crow’s feet that are caused by muscle movement.

How Are Fillers Used To Enhance The Lips?

Lip fillers are smooth and soft compared to those used in other parts of the face. These products can be used around the mouth to smooth fine lines. They are also commonly introduced into the fatty, pink tissue of the lips to increase fullness. Fillers can improve symmetry in the cupid’s bow of the top lip and create volume in naturally thin lips.

How Often Will I Need To Receive Filler Injections?

It is easy to maintain the results of filler treatment with touch-ups now and then. The timing of retreatment depends on the type of filler used, where it is needed, and the speed at which your body naturally metabolizes hyaluronic acid or other ingredients.

On average, sturdier fillers like Juvéderm Voluma, used in the cheek area, can last up to two years. Restylane and Juvéderm fillers for the lips and under the eyes can last approximately 12 months. Radiesse typically lasts 12 to 18 months.

Can Fillers Be Combined With Other Procedures?

Fillers are often combined with other treatments. Commonly, dermal filler and Botox go very well together for a full-face refresher. Many patients also schedule dermal filler treatment after facelift surgery or eyelid rejuvenation to further enhance their cosmetic outcome.

How Soon After Receiving Filler Injections Can I Resume Normal Activities?

Normal activities can be resumed immediately after your appointment. Many patients return to work soon after their injectable treatment. The side effects of injections are generally mild and short-lived. Should minor bruising or redness occur, this can be covered with makeup.

Will I Need To Avoid Certain Activities After Filler Injections?

We do recommend that strenuous activity be postponed for several hours after injections. Any activity that raises the heart rate could increase swelling, pinpoint bleeding, and the risk of bruising.

Risks Of Dermal Fillers

Most of the dermal fillers that are popular today are made from organic ingredients like hyaluronic acid or calcium microspheres. These ingredients are non-allergenic, non-toxic, and biocompatible with natural tissue. That being said, dermal filler treatment should only be performed by a licensed medical practitioner. Nurse and physician injectors are familiar with facial anatomy, including the location of nerves and blood vessels that may be affected by injections to the face. Our staff is extensively trained and careful in the use of dermal fillers and other cosmetic injectables to achieve the most natural-looking results.
