Exercise After Breast Reduction

Recovery following plastic surgery plays a crucial role in achieving desired outcomes. Questions about when it is OK to begin exercising again are typical. While each individual is different, there are certain general rules on when it’s best to return to exercise when recovering from breast reduction.
Patients are generally advised not to engage in any strenuous physical activity during the first three to five days after breast reduction. Seven days after surgery, patients can engage in exercises that target the lower body such as bodyweight squats and lunges. Using weights at this time is not advised, but low impact cardio exercises such as stationary cycling and walking are allowed. Upper body exercises or any activity that will elevate your heart rate to extremely high levels should be avoided until our Rochester plastic surgery team has given the go ahead.
